I have open-source projects and private ones. How do I keep the private ones out?
You don’t have to do anything. Setup’s default policy ispublic: only repositories that are public on GitHub are recorded, confirmed with our server before a turn is uploaded. A private repository is recorded only if you add it by name yourself. To be doubly sure about one, run payback off inside it. See Which repositories are recorded.
What about forks?
A fork is its own repository: it’s matched on your clone’sorigin, so you/flask is a different entry from pallets/flask. If your fork is public, it’s recorded under the public policy.
Worktrees and second clones?
Repositories are matched on theorigin remote, so every worktree and every clone of a repository counts as that repository, wherever it is on disk.
What do you do with my sessions?
We review each one. A session on a public repository with real changes and a checkable task can become an RL environment: the repository at the starting commit, your task, and a way to verify the result. We license those to AI labs and pay you for each one licensed. Sessions that aren’t a fit are deleted. See Where a session goes.Is this sponsorship?
No. It’s payment for sessions that become licensed environments, plus a $20 setup bonus. See Getting paid.I use my agent on work for my employer. Is that recorded?
Only if the repository is public on GitHub or you named it. Work in private repositories is never recorded under the default policy. If an employer’s repository is public, you can exclude it withpayback off.
Does it slow my agent down?
No. The hook writes locally and never waits on the network; uploads run in the background after the turn ends and on a 15-minute timer.Windows?
Not supported. macOS and Linux only. How do I stop?
payback pause stops recording until payback resume. payback uninstall removes the hooks and timers. Deleting your data covers the rest.
