payback records what you do with the CLI as product events: which command ran, what you chose in setup, that a session was captured and uploaded, and when. They are written to ~/.payback/product/ and shipped to our server, which attaches your GitHub login and the CLI version and forwards them to Mixpanel. The website reports page views, installs and sign-ins the same way. An event never contains your prompts, transcripts, code, file paths, secrets, IP address or email, and names a repository only when it is public or on your allow list.

Turning it off

Either of these stops the CLI’s events:
Hooks never make network calls for analytics; events are shipped by the background uploader and when a command exits.
